Summer Learning journey activity 2
Today we are doing activity 2 from our summer learning journey. Today our activity 2 from the summer learning journey is about our culture so we have to write all about our culture / where our family comes from, what is most special to our family, and what language we speak. My Mum is about 85% Filipino and she is about 15% Spanish, my Dad is 100% British, and I was born in NewZealand. The things that are special to my family are visiting family every year because they all live on the other side of the world. I speak English, my mum speaks Tagalog, Bisaya, and English, and my dad speaks French, English, and a bit of welsh.

Summer Learning Journey Week one: Physical Limits
WALT do the Summer Learning Journey. Today our activity 1 is to write 10 food items that we would take on an ocean voyage that would last 3 weeks without an OVEN, FRIDGE OR A FREEZER!!!. First I would probably think of canned foods like...
Baked beans, Spaghetti, creamy rice, and corn.
Then I would think of something that makes me interested to eat like...
Cookies, lollies, strawberries, mango, mandarines, and water.
And that's what I would take on an ocean voyage.

Food for thought
This week we have been learning how to read labels on food products to see if they are okay to eat every day or if they are occasional foods. First, a lady named Brittany came into our class/school to teach us all about our bodies, how to read labels, what is healthy for us and what is not healthy for us. Then the next day/Friday we took a trip to New World/the supermarket to do some labeling work on a sheet. We had a sheet and there were 5 different categories of foods...
Breakfast cereals, Bread, Muesli bars, Snack foods, and Milk/dairy products. And what we had to do with them was choose two different things from each category, one of them had to be an everyday food and the other one had to be an occasional food. And how we worked that out was when we looked at the labels the sugar had to be less than 10g unless it had fruit in it, Energy could be anything, the fat total had to be less than 10g unless it had seeds and nuts it could be higher, the calcium we don't know, the sodium/salt had to be less than 400mg, and the dietary fibre had to be more than 5g.

Poetry writing
WALT write poems with onomatopoeia
Walking into the start of school
birds splashing in the pool
children chattering with happy glee
stones hitting and slapping the sea
skipping ropes skimming the ground
oh, what a weird sound.
Today in class we learnt how to use onomatopoeia in poetry. First, we got handed a sheet that had five poems, and the poems had lots of onomatopoeia words in them and an explanation about what onomatopoeia was. So then we had to underline the onomatopoeia words. After we had done that we had to write a poem that had onomatopoeia in it.

Kepapa Huarākau - Fruit Kebabs
For Te Wiki o te Māori, we read (pānui) the pukapuka Kepapa Huarakāu. We then made our own kepapa Huarakāu using the instructions from the pukapuka.
This is how we made them...
First, we washed the grapes
Then we peeled the apples, peeled the kiwifruit, cut the bananas, cut the oranges, took the grapes apart
After we finished that we put all the fruit into bowls and the marshmallows
Then we got our barbeque sticks and put the fruit and marshmallows on it.
This is how we made them in Māori...
Reka ngā kepapa huarākau.
Anei ngā tohutohu.
Tuatahi horoia ngā kerepe.
Tuarua, tihoretia ngā āporo, ngā huakiwi...
... ngā panana me ngā āarani.
Tuatoru, tapahia ngā huarākau kia iti.
Tuawhā, werohia ngā huarākau me ngā rare kōpungapunga.

Reflection Week 6
One thing I've learned this week is to draw a horizon line drawing.
One thing I have found hard this week is the last question on our maths slide because the instructions didn't explain what I was supposed to do and I just didn't get it.
Something I have enjoyed is doing art because I like art.
One thing to work on next week is to get better at doing horizon line drawing because I want to get better so it will be perfect for calendar art.

Then we got our material and put it on a tray, then we put the little grated bits of beeswax on the material. Then we put it in the oven until it was melted. Then we let it dry.

Our own character shapes
This is my character. Today we had to make shapes out of our character. Triangles means your character likes to move a lot and lots of triangles basically means your character is evil. Circles means kind and friendly and squares means sturdy.
How to wash and take care of your beeswax wrap.
When your beeswax wrap needs to get washed always use cold water and mild soap (eco-friendly is best). Rinse your wrap in cold water and dish soap or sponge off with a dishcloth. Air dry on a dish rack or use a tea towel to dry off.
1. Get your beeswax wrap and put the cold water on.
2. Then rinse the wrap in the cold water for a short amount of time. Use some eco - friendly or just mild soap with it, sponge off with a dishcloth.
3. After that air dry the wrap or dap it and leave it in a dry dishcloth until it is dry.

ANZAC poem
Australia and New Zealand fight for Britan.
New year another war.
Zooming soldiers to their trenches.
Amazing soldiers fighting for their countries.
Countries fighting against each other.
Dying soldiers in the war.
Anzac day is on the 25th of April.
Young men fight for NewZealand and their countries.
We wrote an ANZAC poem about all the people in the war. The poem is called an acrostic poem. ANZAC day represents world war 1 that happened from 1914 to 1918. Lots of the New Zealand soldiers died before it happened because they were going to land in Turkey and block the Turkey people but they landed in the wrong place so some of the Turkey people killed them and the were busted!

Dear Humans
Dear Humans,
My name is Timmy the Turtle I am letting you know that I have gone through some tough times but that may be because of rubbish, people littering. I think all humans should stop using rubbish often because people/scientists say that in 2050 each minute 4 truckloads of rubbish would be going in to the ocean and that’s alooooot. Now it’s time to get angry! How could you litter in the ocean! You need all the things you are killing! MY WHOLE FAMILY DIED BECAUSE OF YOU! NOW I AM STUCK SWIMMING IN A TODDLERS TOILET SEAT!
Before After

The Saimaa ringed seals and the Tigers
The name of the animals that the WWF is trying to save is the Saimaa Ringed Seal.
What the WWF is trying to do to save the Saimaa Ringed Seals is to make snow banks so that the pups can be protected from cold predators and any human disturbance.
The WWF didn't say they had any success.

On our blog, we have to create a made-up animal/beast.
I made up a jumper-corn is a jumping unicorn!
Feels like a soft fluffy rug made from white Possum fur.
Looks like a white fluffy polar bear as clean as snow.
Sounds like a baby horse neighing softly.
Smells like a big cloud of strawberry cotton candy!
