DLO on how to understand negative and positive integers

This week we had to make a DLO explaining how to understand something (that we got to choose) based on maths. I did this with Bella. We explained this on a piece of paper. I found this quite challenging to do but it was quite fun because, in the end, I learnt something. My next step for next time will be to be more prepared and know what to do more. I hope you learnt something from our video!

Converting improper fractions to a mixed number

One of the things we have to do for maths in lockdown is to complete this slide. This slide is full of questions that ask questions about the fractions. Then with the fractions, we had to convert them into mixed numbers. I found this really hard at first but then once I got a little bit of help it turned out to be really easy and pretty fun.

ART!!

Recently we got made to do this art, which as you can imagine was very messy because we used pastels. We all got to choose a type of sport/hobby that was a silhouette that we would have to trace. Then we had to choose two opposite colours off of the colour wheel, then we got to choose another random colour of our choice if we wished to have another colour for the silhouette. This was very boring and annoying in my opinion because the pastel got all over me and it took too long to do and now we have to do another one for our calendar art which is horrid. Ta Ta

Careers Buzz Quiz

This term we are working on careers. For T- Shaped Literacy we have to do heaps of things about careers like writing about careers we think would suit us and the pros and cons about them also. Today I made a mini-review on what we think about the Careers Buzz quiz. I talked about why we think the quiz is inaccurate because of what type of careers came up and how the questions led up to the wrong answers.

Dixon House Vist

On Tuesday afternoon our class hopped onto the bus with books in our hands feeling super anxious and nervous. For some reason, we got dropped off around 2 minutes away from the actual place we were going. We all jumped off the bus and started walking towards Dixon House. We waited outside as the woman greeted us in. I could feel sweat starting to come in. It was really warm in there, I really thought I was going to break out in sweat in a moment. We went over there for national share a story month, that’s why we read books to them. Everyone started splitting ways and going to all the elderly's. I was stuck standing in the middle of the room not knowing where to go. I was really scared at the time since I didn’t have that many experiences with elderlies. I followed Bella as she started reading a book to one of the old ladies sitting in the lounge, she didn’t talk much. One of the workers told me to read to the one right next to Bella so I started reading. The woman Bella was reading to start looking towards my book and not hers so Bella just started drifting away as she felt pretty offended. But I guess I wasn’t surprised because my book was definitely better. All of the old people were doing different things and they all looked like they had different needs too. One was drinking out of a sippy cup, one was crying, one was sleeping, WHILE I WAS READING! After I had finished reading the book I had no idea what I was going to say because none of them really talked so I just said bye hoping they wouldn’t mind. I looked around the room and ran to Emma, she looked just as hopeless as I did. We both walked around the room to find somewhere else to read. We saw Carter and Caiden reading to these really nice-looking ladies at the table. We walked over and sat down as we listened to Carter read a really tiny and boring book. The ladies looked just as bored but they still made sure that they looked interested. For the rest of the time we were there I felt more confident as I read to more people. They seemed really happy that we were there to read to them which made all of our days. In the end, we all got some baking that the polytech made. All the kids went to one table to chat with each other and tell each other how it was going so far, while I was sitting here not being able to finish my very iced biscuit. Then it was finally time to leave. We all said our goodbyes and grabbed a bar of chocolate on the way out. When we got back to school everyone was really happy and excited. All of us wanted to go back there and read to them again. It was such an amazing experience.

 How it made me feel.
I was really scared at first and I was sweating from top to bottom. But as the day went on I got way more confident and It started to end up being really fun.
What I enjoyed the most.
I really enjoyed it when some of them shared stories and talked about them and their lives. It was a great way to learn about them and to connect with them too.
What I learned from it.
One thing that I learned from this trip was not to take food for granted because all of us were really excited about the food. But to be honest, in the end the food wasn’t even good and hanging out with the eldery’s was such a good experience. And next time I would definitely choose hanging out with them instead of the food!

China's New Rocket

Today we had current events, which is basically a quiz about all the things that have happened recently that are usually on the news. We usually do this every week and after we have finished the t quiz we have to choose a topic about one of the questions on the quiz and research about it. I chose to research the new Chinese rocket that landed in the Indian ocean. They launched the Chinese rocket on the 29th of April and it landed on the 10th of May. I found this really fun because lots of people thought it was going to land in NZ! Maybe next time I could improve by adding more information and not being in as much of a rush.

Anzac war photo montage

Anzac War Photo Montage

Kia ora, it's almost Anzac which means at school we have to do Anzac literacy and maths. For literacy, we have to choose 3 out of 6 activities to do. The second activity that I chose to do was a war photo montage. We had to put links on each photo that leads to the site it was from. So when you press one of the photos it leads you to the link to the site. I really liked doing this because it was interesting looking at all the photos and what they had to go through in war. Maybe I could've improved it by adding more photos to it.

Couple accidentally vandalised artwork

Kia oraaaa, Every week we have to do a quiz about most of the events that happen in around the past week. Every time we finish the quiz we have to choose one of the topics about the question that we want to do. Today we had to do two but I only ended up finishing 1. I chose this one that was about a couple in Korea that accidentally vandalized a painting that they thought they could add paint to art as a part of it. I really liked doing this because it was interesting and I got quite a bit of second-hand embarrassment from just reading it.  Maybe next time I could make this BTB (Better Than Before) by adding more information and color, and I also wish we didn't have to rush this so it would be BTB.

Anzac Day Morse Code

Today we had to complete one of the 6 activities our teacher us upon. It is nearly Anzac Day which means we have started to do Anzac activities. I decided to choose the morse code activity because it looked the easiest and most fun. We had to find a fact about Anzac day and translate it into morse code. Try Decoding it without looking at the sentence! I found this really fun because I like doing activities that include finding the answer. Maybe next time I could improve by having more time instead of rushing because I did it in my book and didn't know that we had to post it.

Our project video

Our Project Video
For the past week for our T- Shaped literacy we had to make a model of one of the buildings in our school that used electricity. We put solar panels on top of our building so that the building wouldn't use energy. Grace and I decided to recreate the tech room. The thing I most enjoyed about this is was the create part because it was fun to make a remodel of the tech room. I found the most challenging thing the hot gluing
This is our video explaining our project.

Tokelau

For our T-Shaped literacy, we had to write a few sentences about a tiny country called Tokelau. Tokelau is a country that only uses renewable energy. They used to use diesel to make electricity but they stopped in 2012. This country is doing the right thing because they would burn fossil fuel and now they stopped to use a better and alternitave way.

5 Health Benifits of Exercise

Kia ora, Today our teacher and the class belows teacher challenged us, two classes, to make a quality blog post, caption, and 5 reasons why exercise is important. We only had 20 minutes to make one and a quality blog post.  My five reasons were that exercise can reduce your chance of getting heart diseases, increase your chances of living longer, improve your mental health, strengthen your bones and muscles, and it can improve your sleep. I found this activity really fun and informative because now I know that I need to exercise more to become an even more amazing person. Next time maybe I could improve and make it BTB this by having more time to work on it and adding more information and colour. I also hope this post makes people think about the amount of exercise they are getting into their daily life.

Don't forget your Solar Panels

For the past few weeks, Grace and I have been working on an energy song. It took us many tries to complete it, clearly. We thought this was really fun because singing is our main quality of life. By doing this, it made us understand the meaning of energy more clear to us. Hope you like our song!

Kaiteriteri

 Kaiteriteri

Kaiteriteri is located in the Tasman Region of the South Island. If you’re looking for a relaxing holiday Kaiteriteri is just the place for you. Kaiteriteri is well known for its amazing beaches and tourist-filled activities. Summer is the best time to visit Kaiteriteri because there are many things to do on sunny days, such as kayaking, swimming, eating, fishing, boating, hiking, watching the sunset, and many more.

In the daytime, the water is always warm and refreshing for the perfect swim. The Kaiteriteri beach is always busy, especially on sunny summer days. If you ever find yourself looking through your bag and you see you forget to bring your togs there is no point whatsoever to even be in such a beautiful place known for its amazing beach. Kayak rides are really fun to go on in Kaiteriteri because the water is always so clear and warm, perfect for a quick dip in the water. Another amazing thing about being on holiday in Kaiteriteri is the hikes. You can walk for hours and you will never get bored of the beautiful nature and views on Kaiteriteri hikes.

Night times in Kaiteriteri are the best because there will always be an amazing sunset on sunny nights. Even though it's past daytime there are still many things to do like, roasting marshmallows, watching the sunset, nighttime walks, night swims, and way more.

When we came back to school one of our first activities was to write about somewhere we went in the summer holidays. I chose to write about Kaiteriteri because that was the furthest place I went to and it was also my favorite place. Our piece of writing had to be a descriptive piece of writing. I really enjoyed this because I find descriptive writing really fun.

Mobile about energy

For the last week, we have been learning about energy, and 1 out of the 5 activities that we had to do was to make a mobile about all the types of energy. Grace and I made one and put on it all the different types of energy and some little pictures of things that create energy. I found this really fun because we got to make a mobile out of sticks, strings, and cardboard. We put a lightning bolt and a windmill on our mobile.

Kawa of care

For the past few weeks, we have been looking at the kawa of care. I wrote many of the things that are important in the kawa of care. The kawa of care is basically a treaty that you and your parents have to sign for you to keep your Chromebook. This is a bunch of things that you need to know so that your Chromebook is kawa of care safe.

You went where?

Djibouti

This week for French we had to learn about another place in the world that spoke french. I chose Djibouti. French is a new subject that we have been learning in school and this is our 3rd week. I really enjoy french because learning new languages are very interesting because they sound very unique and different. Next time maybe I could improve by adding more colour and information.
