Show don't tell Week 12

This week we have started to do Show don't tell's to improve the way we explain things in our writing. I think it has improved the way I write because it makes the reader want to read it more. I found this one really easy and fun because you get to turn just a few words into an interesting few sentences.

Asia Continent

For the past few weeks, we have been researching the 7 continents. My group got Asia, and we had to research all about it. This slide contains a lot of facts and things about Asia so YOU BETTER READ IT. Maybe next time my group could improve on researching places by adding a bit more information.

Word of the week

This week our word of the week is Precocious. If you don't know what the word of the week is, it is where our teacher gives us a word and we have to go on this sheet and answer all the questions about the word on it. This week I found this word a little bit hard because the dictionaries didn't make that much sense to me. So maybe next time I could improve by adding a bit more information about the word.

Water worries

Water worries

Water wastage is where we run out of water, how? You ask. Well, let's just start at the very beginning. There is a dinosaur drinking his water then soon after… oops he needs to go. The pee comes out and is laying on the ground, it is a hot summer day and all of the heat from the sun makes the pee evaporate into clouds and it leaves behind all of the salts from the pee. Then it rains dinosaur pee but don’t worry it's just water!

Now let's get to the important part. All water comes from everywhere the sea, lakes, rivers, and THE SKY!! But in New Zealand after the Christchurch earthquake we were running out of water, even though the world's water stays the same amount no matter what. The earthquake caused a drought which meant everyone had to try to save the water that was left. Each year our water wastage increases. The water cycle takes a big part in water worries. If the temperature isn’t right not enough water precipitates and it ends up people not having enough water and having to reduce it.

One big reason why we run out of our water is because of the farms. Lots of farms have many cows and many cows need lots of water. Also lots of cows need lots of grass which grass isn't exactly water but farmers need to put fertilizer into the grass for the cows. After that, it gets washed out then ends up into rivers, lakes, and the sea. Obviously, we can’t drink fertilized grassy water.

Hopefully this has changed your mind or at least made it understand that we need to reduce the amount of water we use and try to make a difference in keeping our water nice and clean for the sake of us staying alive. Also I hope this educated your brain a little bit also.

Orographic rain

For the past few weeks, we have been learning about the water cycle. Today we had to finish off what we started yesterday. Yesterday we started to make a google slide about how it works on the west coast when it's raining. I found this challenging because it was hard to make and write down all of the information. Maybe next time I could improve by adding a bit more detail so it is easier to see.

Matariki True or False

1. The Matariki stars can be seen in January and February.
2. There are 11 stars.
3. We celebrate Matariki in the Maori New years May, June, July.
4. Matariki is about the eight stars
5. There are 7 stars in the Matariki cluster.
6. Matariki has something to do with aliens.
7. Matariki is in Canada.

For the past few weeks, we have been learning and researching about Matariki. This week we had to make a True or False about it. You just have to guess if the answer to the question is true or false. I found this sort of challenging because it was hard to come up with questions. Maybe next time to make this better I could put a little more effort into it.

Childhood dreams

I am "I need exercise", Unfit feeling fat.
I am eating, like joy just entered my body.
I am Sleeping, laying on a fluffy cloud.
I am getting dizzy, the world spinning around me.
I am baking, making Gorden Ramsey's dessert.
I am "sorry I just ate", the unpleasant smell of the food wafting under my nose
I am sick faking, laying in bed covered beneath boredness and regret.
I am bunny hopping, jumping up to the sky.
I am road trips, Moving past.

This week we have been doing lots of poetry. A few days ago we had to write our own *My* poem about the subject we chose. Then today we had to mix it up and chose 10 things from that poem and make each one a descriptive short sentence about it. I found this really challenging because I was quite confused and I didn't know that you had to write a descriptive short sentence but then I finally got it. Maybe next time I could improve by adding a bit more detail.

My eating. My sleeping.
My water fight. My yellow kite,
My "yay". My holiday.
My lockdown. My "I want a gown".
My school. My pool.
My Dad. My days sad.
My Mum. My days fun.
My yummy food. My angry mood.
My " I'm tired". My bomb fire.
My road trips. My tramp flips.
My losing my teddy bear. My "It's not fair!"
My shopping. My bunny hopping.
My baking. My sick faking.
My getting dizzy. My " Oh no! My hair is frizzy!"
My "STOP". My lollipop.
My bunny poo. My slimy goo.
My birthday cake. My "sorry I just ate".
My "ugh I want to go home!" My "Oh no where is my phone?!?"
My sanitize. my "I need exercise".

This week for Poetry we had to make our own *My* poem. First, we had to get together all 40 memories and then put 2 in each line and try to make them rhyme. I chose to do my whole childhood. I found this activity pretty challenging because the hardest part was trying to find short sentences that ryhme.
