Mexican New years traditions

This week for literacy medals one of our activities was to do research about how a country celebrates New Year. I chose to do Mexico since I've always wanted to go there. I chose to do 5 traditions that Mexicans do. I really enjoyed doing this because I got to learn a lot of cool things about Mexico. I think that this was challenging for me because I needed to do a lot of research and go on lots of different websites but in the end, it was worth it!

fractions and decimals

WALT convert fractions to decimals. This week for maths medals one of our tasks is to fill out this sheet by converting the fractions into decimals. Yesterday we had to watch a video that explained how to do it so we knew what we were doing. This was challenging for me because the last ones were way harder than the first ones because they are /50.

Events linked to Chinese New year

This week one of our tasks is to complete a slide that has events linked to Chinese New year and to explain what the events are all about. I chose three very important events: The Red Envelopes, The Dragon dance, and the lantern parades. I found this really challenging because I don't know a lot about the Chinese new year but I got to learn more about it which was good.

Round numbers including decimals to the nearest whole number

This week one of our math activities is to round numbers including decimals to the nearest whole number. We had to basically play a maths board game and we had to see how many ways you could find a way to the finish by only using odd numbers from the original numbers. For me, this was challenging because it took a very long time to write down in my book what all the decimal numbers where as whole numbers.

My trip to the Philippines

This week we had to write down a memory about our friends or our loved ones that share everything that you think is amazing about them. I think this was really fun to do because it brought back a lot of amazing memories that I will never forget. I think this was quite challenging because I had to send the photo from my phone to my chrome book so I could put it on here and that took quite a few times for it to work out. Next time maybe I could improve by adding more details so that it makes more sense.

2019 Reflection

This is my 2019 Reflection. This is one of the pieces of work that my class had to do for this week. We had to explain our friends and family in the way we chose to present it. I chose to do pictures because I feel like pictures are a good way to present this so you can see how my 2019 went into pictures. Last year I had a really fun and amazing year and we also went to the Philippines so that was really fun! I really enjoyed making this because it brought back memories from 2019. I think this was challenging for me because I had to upload most of the pictures from my phone but I think it looks great!

identify how mant 10s and 100s are in a 4 digit number

This week on maths medals whizz kids and masterminds are working on our 4 digit numbers. All we had to do is write down how many 10s and 100s are in the 4-digit number. In my opinion, I think this was a really easy activity because all you have to do is keep repeating every slide but just different numbers on each slide. I enjoyed this because it was very quick and easy to do.

Greymouth Star interview

                            COVID-19 interview on Marlene 65-year-old
                            21/4/2020

Today this article is about an interview with the Marlene Trounsen dealing with COVID-19. We asked Marlene lots of questions about how she is going during in self-isolation and how she is surviving while stuck at home. Marlene has been stuck at home longer than most of us due to her age. She is staying in self-isolation with her husband Cedric.

Marlene Trousen has said that she gets occasionally bored because she can't go and visit friends and she also can't go to public places. Marlene entertains her self by playing lots of board games, cleaning, making jewellery and also play on the computer so she doesn't get as bored. During this self-isolation, she tries to eat a lot of healthy food so she stays healthy and fit. Unfortunately, Marlene has not learnt any new hobbies although she has been doing her biggest hobby, making jewellery. Marlene tries to communicate with friends and family by telephone so that they can talk and catch up with the news. Marlene has claimed that after all this self-isolation the first person she would like to see would be her best friend Tony!

Thank you for catching up on the Greymouth Star Newspaper and catching up on what has been happening during quarantine!

This week for literacy one of our activities is to write a News article on us interviewing an elderly to catch up on how the quarantine has been going. I really enjoyed writing this because It was fun and It actually felt like you were writing a real news article. I found this really hard because at some bits it was hard to put all the words together so that it made sense and so it sounded professional.

The nobody news

This week one of our activities for literacy medals is The nobody news slideshow. Where you have to interview your grandparents or someone around the same age as your grandparents. I decided to interview Marlene (Bella's Grandma). I really enjoyed this activity because I know more what it's like to be kinda old and be in self-isolation. I think this was a pretty easy activity because all you had to do was ask them the questions and then write the answers down onto the slide.

Mental strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems

This week WALT use mental strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems. This week we are working on our mental strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems for the sake of school and learning. In this slide, you have to answer a lot of addition and subtraction ish questions. I don't really think I can improve but maybe next time I could write down more of how I worked them out.

Matariki News Report

This week we were told to do a report on the story of the stolen stars/ Matariki. We basically had to make a video and edit it and put it all together so we have a video where we act like we are on the news and we are making a report about this story as if it had happened in real life. I really enjoyed this activity because I have never done anything like this before and It was pretty interesting because the whole putting it together thing and editing it was really challenging.
